Water column acoustic data collected in the Scotia Sea (from 2009-12-23 to 2009-12-30) during cruise JR228.
Multi-frequency (38,120 and 200 kHz) acoustic data were collected using a Simrad EK60 echo sounder. The dataset comprises of calibrated and processed 38 kHz volume backscattering strength (Sv, dB re 1m-1). Data processing was undertaken using Echoview and Matlab. Processed netCDF data files are made available as part of the NERC Southern Ocean Network of Acoustics (SONA) and the EU MESOPP project.

The distribution and concentration of nutrients, including phosphate, nitrate, ammonium and silicate were investigated in the Prydz Bay East Antarctica during CHINARE-26. The results show that the concentration of phosphate and nitrate, were reduced with the latitude increase in the bay.

Abstract:
The breeding success (calculated from nest and chick counts) of Gentoo penguins is monitored annually at Maiviken, South Georgia. The number of incubating nests and chicks reaching fledging stage are counted. Data exist from 2010 onwards.

The weights of fledging Gentoo penguin chicks at Maiviken have been monitored since 2010. The colony at Maiviken, can have over 1000 breeding pairs. Each year, just before their departure from the colony, a sample of 50 fledgling birds are weighed as part of a long-term monitoring programme. These data are submitted to the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) as part of their Ecosystem Monitoring Programme (CEMP).

The mountains of Nepal are one of the most hazardous environments in the world, with frequent landslides caused by tectonic activity, extreme rainfall and infrastructure development. As a landlocked country, Nepal relies on proper functioning of major transportation networks such as the highways to sustain and improve the livelihoods of the population. Every year there are reports of landslides blocking the highways, especially during the rainy season; however, the frequency and location of landslides along the highway corridors are not well reported. RapidEye satellite imagery was used to create annual landslide initiation point inventories along three important highways in Nepal: the Arniko, Karnali, and Pasang Lhamu highway.

This data set contains magnetic anomaly measurements taken over Antarctica using the Geometrics 823A Cesium Magnetometer.
